In Disgruntled Resignation of the Eventually Inevitable.

All I would like to say right now is that I really do not feel like going into New York for a reading.

Every time I go there, a cabbie tries to kill me.

Honest.

(No offense, NYers.)

  1. Please let me be clear - I do not doubt your honesty - but really? Kill you? Knives, guns and all manner of deadly things? Or - you seem to be walking along Broadway when a yellow cab comes careering towards you?

As I see it, there are three remedies - (1) never go to NYC again. (2) Go to NYC but never leave the subway. (3) Really? They try to kill you? Have you tried talking to them? Reasoning with them?

This really is a potential drag on your life - dare I ask, have you visited other cities where this might happen? Does every cab in North America have your picture taped to the dash with a dart pierced through it? Hmmm - really?

  2. Shit, cabbies try to kill you too?

Maybe its a Jersey thing. They smell the scent of the Meadowlands and the Shore. They get jealous of the fact that the two NY football teams play in Jersey. They get jealous of the fact that Jersey produced Springsteen, Bon Jovi, Kevin Smith, and Sinatra.
Then they figure they could rub one of us out and go see a Broadway play or a poetry reading.

  3. I apologize, but im using this post as my imitations so dont get too "quacked" over it. It's just easy to imitate and to start a conversation with.

On the other hand, i do understand where you are coming from, it does feel like the taxis in the city dont mind to hit you. Almost like its a video game and they get points for hitting a walker. But, everyone, needs to make a living.

Just next time you go into th city and a taxi almost hits you, do what a new yorker would do... hey you Quaking A-hole watch it . People r quacking walking here! Just start to scream belligerently at them and hope that they don't have a gun....

  4. Dear Lacey — I've had a few run-ins with cabbies too and find they make a great story afterward. Also: your long story is in good shape and I don’t expect to have any major revision suggestions for you on Thursday, when I return it. Thanks for a great semester. AQ
